Conclusion and Verdict
If you are in need of a portable monitor then the P16C may be one you want to take a serious look at. With the work from home and all the other protocols we are having to adjust to during this pandemic, having the right setup at home can make your work from home life a lot easier. We need our device to easy to use and basically be portable enough, so we are able to work from anywhere. We are in need of alternatives that we are not used to. Having a portable monitor available to you allows you to utilize a device that can make your work flow, and play way more enjoyable. I have had a secondary monitor since the beginning age of flat screens and couldn’t see having it any other way. Now we find our selves using our phones more and more. And if your phone has the capabilities to display through the USB-C port you will be able to use you phone even more with this monitor. This monitor has limitations as this version isn’t touch screen but just imagine possibilities of the larger display for your phone. The whole key to this monitor is the portability. You can easily fit this in any briefcase or bookbag. You will always have a second monitor at your disposal.
Now for my opinion about the aesthetics AS far as my initial impression goes, the monitor is slick. The entire thing is glass and has a refined look to it. Then reality hit and I was concerned there was so much glass. One drop or bad placement in a bookbag and this thing would probably suffer worse fate than a phone. So you will need to keep this thing protected as you would anything else that was so much glass. I am not saying this glass wont hold up well over time. I just wouldn’t toss this thing around like a tablet. As beautiful as it is the glass is breakable and could suffer damage if not taken care of properly. I have wiped the front screen down several times and haven’t noticed any scratching or scuffing to speak of. No where can I find a rating of the hardness but from what I can tell the hardness is in line with what you would find on your typical phone. They do make tempered glass covers for this size of screen and that would be my first add-on. Its the first thing to go on my phone screen and would be the first thing to go on this. Accidents happen and having that extra layer of protection on something that will be used on the go, is a must.
Lastly, the visuals. I directly compared this to a monitor that had extremely great color reproduction. And you could see the difference earlier in the review. This difference was very noticeable sitting next to performance monitor. I anticipated this because now where do they advertise this kind of performance on the P16C. The color is a little lacking, especially in the reds, the greens and blue colors are deeper. They do advertise a contrast ratio of 800:1 and The reading I got was actually a 960:1. SO this exceeded specs and came in very handy due to the glass screen. Now speaking on the glass screen for a second. The glare was as expected. You will have to strategically place this to avoid any overhead lights or any bright light being directed towards your line of sight. You will notice the glare if it hits the screen just right. The contrast and brightness of this monitor really do cut down on this quite a bit though. As we all remember, when plasma screens first came and were glass, the glass screen can be a nuisance at times. The reflections can be very noticeable in very bright areas. But if you position the screen at the right angle all the glare can be easily eliminated. Would this monitor serve well hooked up to any device? Absolutely! The monitor has great brightness and has a very classy look. Just remember to protect all that glass.
The cheapest portable monitor with similar specs I could find was a no-name brand and it was $159.99. And it was hard to find information about the monitor nor did you get the warranty you get with this monitor. Monitors like this one can range from the $159.99 no-name brands to a staggering $300+. So this monitor at $169.99 is a great deal in my opinion especially considering this is FreeSync compatible.
