Firing It Up
As mentioned you will need to download the drivers and RecCentral, AVerMedia’s software, to use the Live Gamer HD Lite. Its all packaged in around 95Mb and doesn’t need a reboot to get things started.
RecCentral is a bit daunting at first, there’s so many controls to play with, and if you select the ‘Advanced’ part of the circle on the main screen, you’re faced with even more settings such as audio source, compression ratio, stream keys, etc. You can do away with all the complexity by letting the software choose what is best for you via either the ‘Wizard’ or ‘1-Click’ buttons.
For the purpose of just grabbing a TV feed to play on the Windows desktop, just select ‘Capture’ and ‘1-Click’.
Here’s where you can select the type of feed you want. ‘Current PC’ lets you route the HDMI output of your graphics card to the Live Gamer HD Lite’s HDMI-in port so you can record or stream whatever is happening on your PC. ‘Other PC’ is the same but of another PC, and this is what you will need to select for a TV feed. ‘Game Console’ allows you to hook up the likes of an XBox or PS4 and record/stream your gaming sessions on them.
….and here’s the TV feed playing on the Windows Desktop via Capture mode. The central controls at the bottom lets you mute the feed, start/stop recording and take snapshots of the feed. Towards the right hand side you can select the color palette to be used, and displays the amount of storage space you have left for recording.
Recording feeds is so simple, and you can control the compression ratio to your liking, from massive files with high definition content, all the way down to small manageable files that have a lower video quality.
Live streaming is just as easy on with the Live Gamer HD Lite, you don’t even need a stream key, just select the service you want and enter your account details then RecCentral will get the authorization for you, and away you go.
