Shuttle XPC Nano NC02U5 Review

Performance

Powered by an Intel core i5-6200U CPU and using onboard Intel HD graphics, don’t expect the NC02U5 to be a gaming machine. Having said that we tried running 3DMark11 on it, only for internal processes to keep cutting out the benchmark, which is a godsend really as it was only showing that the NC02U5 was running at around 7fps anyway.

I’ll leave you with some benchmarks for now, and my bad for using the ‘incorrect’ CPU-ID……..

We are running Windows 10 Professional 64-bit on the NC02U5, and even though it does take a while to boot up, once you’re at the desktop, you won’t find much lag. Of course, if you start running multiple applications and/or more intensive programs such as Adobe Photoshop, the NC02U5 will struggle to cope. If you really want to give the NC02U5 a big boost, look to install a M.2  SSD drive.

The NC02U5 boasts 4k/Ultra HD video output over its predecessor, and true to the fact, we played various 4k content to our television using a variety of codecs, and the NC02U5 coped very well without any display lag of frame blurs. One of the downside to using the NC02U5 for high-end entertainment systems is its lack of support for sound; an optical output would have been nice.

Without an internal PSU and with an Intel core i5-6200U built in, there’s not much in terms of heat given off from the NC02U5; a tiny bit of heat from the RAM and from the internal 2.5″ hard disk, and with the variety of mounting brackets that is supplied, there are a lot of uses for the NC02U5.
