Raidmax Viper GX II Chassis Review

A Closer Look: Exterior

A funny thing was mentioned while my wife and I were looking to buy the Viper GX. She thought the Viper GX would been a slick looking transformer. Imagine the look of this truly beautiful art work, transforming into a mini transformer. Only if we had an all spark!! The front panel is where it all begins. First, much like my previous review, the Viper GX II has a stealth door. Hiding behind the stealth door is three 5.25 optical drives. Below the door is a fine mesh grill that the pre-installed fan pulls air through out the the tower.

My only complaint is the front panel being made of plastic. The color scheme is awesome! Most of which black with a little bit orange to make it stand out. Removing the front panel allows a clear view of the pre-installed 120mm fan. You will also notice that the fine mesh grill is attached to the panel itself. The 2.5 SSD Hot Swap bay and I/O ports reside at the top front of the GX II. Each have a plastic cover that helps keep dust and debris out of your ports. Removing the top panel gives a clear view both. You will also notice the room for a 240mm water cooler. Your on/off switch, reset button, and LED activity lights are on the left, while your ports sits on the right. Residing in between is the Hot Swap bay.

Raidmax’s  GX II is futuristic and that does not stop with just the front panel.  Both sides have a very unique design that correlates with the rest of the tower. Only difference between the panels is the left side has a honeycomb window showing off your components.  The bottom has two filters held on with plastic clips which are easy to remove by pressing the two sides together. Once removed, you will notice the mount for a 120mm fan and an air vent for the PSU. Allowing air flow to the bottom ventilation is four feet that gives 5/8 mm of clearance from any surface. All four feet have a rubber coating at the bottom to keep the tower from sliding. The back has a very typical layout. There is a cut-out for the I/O ports of the motherboard, 7 expansion slots, 2 rubber grommets for a water cooler, and a vent to the PSU.
