Thermaltake have been producing good quality computer chassis longer than I can remember. Their chassis have always been the choice for modders, gamers and the extreme enthusiasts. In fact, they were among the first to introduce watercooling products and accessories, as well as innovative CPU coolers with great designs. Take for example, Thermaltake’s Golden Orb CPU cooler … does anyone remember them? … they were great!

For computer chassis, Thermaltake took everyone by surprise when they first released a chassis with a black interior and a windowed side panel. It was a great seller, especially amongst the gamers and the modding community. Furthermore, they have been great supporters of local LAN events … so much so they released their LAN Box series, which were designed for mini-ATX motherboards.
With such a pedigree for producing thermal products and chassis, it’s no wonder Thermaltake are one of the market leaders in this field. Today, Thermaltake continues this tradition by producing and releasing products that’s even more innovative than ever before.
Thermaltake are not only well known for their chassis, but they’re also famous for their coolers and power supplies. In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the Thermaltake V9 BlacX Chassis. It’s a midi-tower that’s designed for the gamer or enthusiast who likes a little modding. It’s constructed using good quality SECC materials (steel), and can support a full size ATX motherboard. It has a dual bay Docking Station on the top of the chassis that supports both 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA hard drives. What’s more, the Thermaltake V9 BlacX is one of the first chassis we’ve come across, that has the latest built-in USB3.0 SuperSpeed connector at the front of the chassis. The I/O front panel conveniently located near the top of the chassis and features the usual connectors, which includes a USB 2.0 x 1, Speaker-out x 1 and Mic-in x1. For expansion, there’s a total of 10 bays (3 x 5.25’’, 2 x 3.5’’, 5 x 3.5’’), which is more than enough for the most demanding of users.
Everything about the Thermaltake V9 BlacX is designed for the gamer. It has a black interior, with a honeycomb mesh design on all sides of the chassis, which is great for cooling. It also has a windowed side panel, as well as easy to use, tool-free installation. For cooling, the chassis offers excellent air-flow and features a massive 230mm slient fan on the top, which spins at 800rpm. There’s also a large 120mm blue LED fan at the front, which draws cold air in, and another 120mm fan at the rear to extract the hot air out.
We’ll be testing the Thermaltake V9 BlacX Chassis using the following componets, which includes an Intel Core i5 – 650 @ 3.2Ghz, Gigabyte P55 USB3 motherboard (full size ATX), Geforce GTX 460 OC, 4Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer and a Thermaltake ToughPower 875W power supply, and our massive Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler. Will all these components fit into this midi-tower? Will the windowed side panel foul the massive Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler? And what about the noise level and internal temperature during normal operation? To find out read on …
OK … let’s not waste any more time and take a closer look at the specifications and features of the Thermaltake V9 BlacX Chassis.
