Building AMD Ryzen mini ITX Gaming PC with Alphacool Water Cooling

Specification

Above is a list of used components. AMD Ryzen R7 1700X seems like a good base for a gaming PC because of its high performance but also quite low temperature of the CPU. There is not big choice on motherboards as only Biostar has mini ITX motherboards for AMD Ryzen processors in their offer. We have a choice between the B350 and X370 chipset. As you can see in the table, we’ve chosen the X370GTN motherboard which is using stronger chipset.

Because of small space we’ve also decided on a single SSD but higher capacity – Crucial MX300 1050GB M.2 which was reviewed some time ago on the FunkyKit. Perfect balance between performance and high capacity. I guess that most users can use 480-512GB SSD. Less is not recommended considering that some new games take over 40GB space on the drive.

Used RAM is 2x8GB DDR4-3466 kit made by Ballistix. It’s one of the best options for gamers and overclockers. I hope that with BIOS based on new AGESA we will be able to set higher memory frequency as on Intel based motherboards the Ballistix Elite DDR4-3466 memory is able to reach DDR4-4133. On our Biostar motherboard optimal settings are DDR4-3200 and 14-14-14 main timings at 1.35V.

Used graphics card is Gigabyte GTX1070 Founders Edition which is more than enough for most new games. We won’t be able to run all games at 4K screen resolution, but in some titles even GTX1080Ti is not enough. The GTX1070 is well performing graphics card and at the same time is not generating much heat what is important to keep small PC cool and quiet.

Everything from water cooling products is available as a set or separately. For instance you can buy the Eiswolf GPX Pro cooler with NexXxos radiator and Eiswind fans. The same, Eisbaer CPU coolers are available with pump/block, radiator and fans as a whole set. Before you order all parts better check if kit won’t be cheaper.

Alphacool also provided set of compression fittings. Typical, standard but good looking fittings which perfectly match every modern PC.

On the next page we will take a closer look at the processor cooling so the Eisbaer.
