Today we have the new MasterAir MA612 Stealth ARGB CPU Cooler from Cooler Master. what determines a good Air cooler? There are a couple of easy thing to look for when choosing the right cooler. First off, count the number of heat pipes. The more there are the better it will perform. Second, Look at the base. What material is it? I prefer copper. That may just because I am old school. But nickel plating has its advantages. Copper might have the chance of oxidizing and discoloring while nickel plating protects the hardware from this. Copper might have a very slim performance advantage but the performance hit is so minimal that it is practically negligible. As long as the base is machined true and the heat pipes have consistent contact with the CPU you are good to go.
Lastly the actual fin design and fans. You don’t want a CPU cooler with a tight fin array and a fan that has a low CFM. You also don’t want a wide open fin design that wont let the air cool the fins and heat pipes. Think of it like a car without a thermostat. If the car doesn’t have one then the water circulates to fast through the radiator not allowing it proper time to cool. So some resistance is good. Now that we have briefly covered what to look for lets see what we get with this cooler.
