Deepcool Captain 240 EX AIO Water Cooler Review

Performance

Performance has been tested on Intel i7 6700K processor overclocked to 4.2GHz at 1.2V. Performance of Captain 240 EX will let to overclock this processor higher but for comparison we will keep it at the same frequency as for other cooling solutions.

As you can see in the table above, Deepcool Captain 240 EX performs about as good as CRYORIG A80 at 1000 RPM. However CRYORIG A80 has larger, 280mm radiator what of course affects performance. Even comparing to the best result in our comparison, Captain 240 EX looks great losing only 2-3°C at full load.

Maybe I mentioned that earlier but Captain 240 EX runs really quiet. During the work of most water pumps you can hear quiet rattling noise while Captain 240 EX pump is nearly silent. I was also surprised that I couldn’t hear fans during normal work and under load they’re spinning not much faster.

Above you can see graph with temperatures. Deepcool Captain 240 EX offers great performance considering its small size ( even though it has 240mm radiator it’s quite small ). There is also no other cooling in our comparison which generates less noise and still let to overclock i7 6700K processor.

I won’t hide, I’m surprised how well the Captain 240 EX is performing. I had a chance to test many air and water cooling solutions and I wasn’t expecting Captain 240 EX to show so good results and run so quiet at the same time. Simply amazing.

Did you use the included PWM splitter? I installed this kit but was weary off of using two fans off of one header over prolonged use, so i have the fans on two different PWM headers being controlled by a custom fan curve with Speedfan. Which header did you put the fans on and which header did you put the pump on?

I was using fan hub as I didn’t have enough fan headers on the motherboard. Everything was connected to the black headers but I don’t remember the order. Speed was the same on all of them.
