Conclusion and Verdict
Does it matter how you mount a pump? I guess I really never gave it any thought before this review. But it indeed does make a difference with this particular pump. Without a full tear down, we can’t see the water channels. But according to DeepCool they run in such a way that the chip will run cooler if the pump is mounted with the hoses in the 6 o’clock position. Intel chips tend to be more rectangular than square and makes sense if the pump design can cool better if the channels run the length of the chip rather than perpendicular. This allows the copper base to conduct the heat to more volume of water efficiently. It’s all about how fast you can transfer that heat to the water. The more water at one time that can directly absorb the heat from the base the better your results will be. May not be a thing on other pumps but make you wonder if it has mattered on other coolers in the past. This accounted for a 3-degree difference in temperature results. Thats enough for me to say yes it actually matters for this cooler. One feature to keep in mind if you go with this cooler. Mounting position will determine the performance. Even if that orientation isn’t possible for your setup, the temps at the other positions were not too bad either.
The fans do have a proprietary connection. They also easily daisy chained together. I found this feature amazing for wire management. It can be kind of confusing at first because you have to utilize the SATA power connection to get the fans spinning and the RGB to come on. I tried to avoid using this connector, but it is required to use. You still use the typical ARGB header as usual but also need to use the SATA power connection. All-in-all this AIO was a solid performer and has had the best cooling to date. Not surprised with it being a 360mm rad. With that being said this unit is slated to have a MSRP of 139.99 USD. That price is amazing for a quality brand and the level of performance I got.
