EVERCOOL CARRY NB-EC01 Portable Notebook Cooler Review

Finished Looks

Installing the CARRY notebook cooler is pretty much as easy as it gets. We will first apply the adhesive skid proof pad to the bottom of the cooler. This is actually handy for keeping the cooler in place snug right up against your notebook’s exhaust port. The pad will also help to numb any noise due to vibration.

Next, we will select the silicone adapter sized to better fit our notebook. The two sizes included are 10mm and 17mm. These are a great inclusion to the package since they are fairly flexible and will fit nicely against an ultrabook or the typical notebook thickness. This silicone is also heat resistant, so overclockers are welcome to try and melt them!

Test Setup & Testing Methodology

Our testing system for notebook coolers is an HP DV7T, which is fully loaded with an Intel Sandy Bridge processor and a dedicated AMD graphics card. To ensure consistent results, all coolers were set to maximum fan speed and the ambient room temperature was kept at 24 degrees Celsius +/- 1 degree. The idle temperatures were recorded after 15 minutes of idle time on the desktop and the maximum load temperatures were recorded after a run of the latest 3dMark software courtesy of Futuremark. The monitoring software used was HWMonitor courtesy of CPUID.

Now that we have the specifications and testing parameters, let us move on to the performance results.

Performance

With the laptop sitting in idle mode, the CARRY NB-EC01 managed to best the other coolers, despite only having one 70mm fan. The only exception was the memory temperatures, which is understandable since the other two coolers cool from underneath the laptop aiming directly at the typical location for notebook memory modules.

During our load testing with 3dMark, the CARRY NB-EC01 manages to compete with the other coolers with the exception of the memory temperatures for the same reasons as we discussed before.
