SilentiumPC Fortis 3 EVO ARGB CPU Cooler Review

Closer Look / Product Photos

SilentiumPC Fortis 3 EVO ARGB arrived in a retail package, which is a medium-size box. For CPU coolers, it’s actually a typical size. The exterior will tell us about everything about the product inside, including dimensions and full specifications listed on this review’s previous page.

Inside the box, we will find everything required to install the cooler. Installation isn’t hard, but it’s still worth to take a look at the manual to be sure if we use correct mounting elements. The manual has clear to understand pictures, so even less advanced users won’t have any problems.

The installation itself isn’t hard, but we have to check if no motherboard components interfere with the mounting plate. One of two motherboards used for tests had SMD touching the mounting plate. It shouldn’t happen in the case of full ATX size motherboards while mini ITX can have some components too close. The same situation is with other brands like Enermax. I wish it were improved in time.

The Fortis 3 EVO ARGB uses a 140mm fan, which is semi-transparent and milky white. It works well with the ARGB lighting. The fan works at the range between 250 and 1400 RPM and is quiet, so it should satisfy most users.

The nano-reset ARGB is a convenient small controller, a great addition, especially for users who don’t have a motherboard with an ARGB connector.

The heatsink is quite big and asymmetrical. It reminds me of Scythe coolers with its size. The base is nickel-plated but mostly contains five heat pipes with direct contact with the CPU’s IHS. The base doesn’t have a perfect finish. It’s let’s say it’s quite average at best. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of our sample, or it looks like this on all coolers from the Fortis 3 series. SilentiumPC recommends a dense thermal compound that should help in thermal transfer.

Below are a couple of photos with the cooler during work. The ARGB looks great, even though LEDs are installed only in the center of the fan. This is the effect of a white fan, which was a good idea.

We will check how the Fortis 3 EVO ARGB performs on the next page, as it seems the most important.
