Thermaltake NiC 5 – Untouchable CPU Cooler Review

Verdict and Conclusion

To sum up: I’m pleased with everything thus far.  Is it the best I’ve ever used?  No, but for around $55 it is one of the better CPU Coolers far as the price-to-performance ratio is concerned.  The only crippling factor is the noise level.

If I had managed to squeeze a few more degress than I got at the two fastest settings, I’d say it’s worth suffering through.  Still, we all have to draw the line somewhere, and I’m afraid I just couldn’t stand more than a few minutes without straining my ears.

Searching on Amazon, you can get Thermaltake’s other monster cooler – the Frio Advanced CPU Cooler for $59.00. So if the NiC 5 costs $55.00, then it’s defintely worth considering, especially if it can handle 230W.

Pros:

  • Works with all Intel and AMD sockets.
  • Average to above-average cooling quality.
  • Easy installation.
  • Effortless fan removal w/ one adaptor for both cables.

Cons:

  • Noisy

Final Words. Based on everything, I feel the Untouchable is mostly-deserving of its title.  It makes good on its promises and gives you what you’d expect for the price.  That alone is deserving of a passing rating since it’s often hard to come by a good cooler that doesn’t make you feel like a frivolous or selfish spender for wanting a little extra strength out of your hardware.
