Conclusion and Verdict
Since I received the Mars gaming desk, it has been a permanent piece in my office. I was pretty excited when I saw Cougar was releasing a slightly smaller version of the desk. This desk, other than the surface material being broken up by a middle section of a plastic piece, is very similar. The overall shape, look and feel are almost identical. For those of you not needing such a large desk, this desk would make a great alternative. I also prefer the carbon fiber material on the entire surface. Just like the first desk, the lights are great. The RGB isn’t overdone even though the RGB diffuser is about an inch wide and spans the entire depth of the desk. You are able to use the built-in RGB functions or use the cables and plug in the adapter to your motherboard and sync it with the rest of your system. The only difference I noticed in this desk and the original mars, was the power source for the lights. On the Mars 120 you will utilize an USB port for power. On the first desk, it was powered by a SATA connection. I prefer the SATA connection over the USB because I literally have a shortage of USB hubs nowadays. But I really like the ease of just using an USB port.
As you can see from the pictures this desk is very spacious and has great quality. The entire surface of this desk has a texture and and carbon fiber look. Honestly I like this look and feel. The material has a high quality and durable feel. I will let you know that it is scratch resistant to a point. If you are sliding plastic across the material it holds up very well. If it is a metal material, the scratching will be visible.
I was sliding a case across the surface and a corner was touching and it put a nice blemish on the material. I got some black shoe polish and wiped it in and the scratch was practically unnoticeable. I don’t recommend using a black marker but the shoe polish worked great.
