It’s all the rage in Hong Kong at the moment; streaming yourself whilst you are singing karaoke. I first caught sight of this craze a few weeks back when I colleague of mine started live streaming her singing antics on Facebook Live, armed with a wireless karaoke microphone.
There are 2 varieties of these karaoke microphones hitting the shops right now; a miniature trumpet shaped one, and the TuXun Q7 which we’ll be taking a look at today. What’s so special about these microphones? They’re cheap enough so that you don’t feel guilty of splashing out for a bit of fun, and they produce a hollow echo sound as if you are singing in a theatre hall.
Resembling a full sized microphone with a big fat cube stuck in it, the Q7 comes packaged with its own protective case, a charging cable (micro USB), an 3.5mm audio jack to micro USB cable and a small instructions manual thats all in simplified Chinese. All I can figure out from the manual is that a full charge will take you 8 hours, and the internal batteries will give you 5-8 hours of singing pleasure….thats quite a long range!
On one of the sides of the cube you’ll find the power button and 5 sliders to control the quality of the sound that is emitted from the 2 speakers either side of the buttons. Whilst I found the treble and echo sliders to work reasonably well, the bass and volume were had to control, and the ‘music’ button just muting the music you stream through it.
OK, here comes the part I can’t figure out. There’s a slider on top of the cube so that the music you stream through it can be from an iOS device or an Android, but the cable provided is just a 3.5mm audio jack which plugs into any audio equipment with an audio port. I’ve tried the Q7 with an Android phone, my iPhone and even an old walkman I have still lying around, and no matter whichever I position I put the slider, it sounds the same….
Now, there’s no way in hell I’m going to post up an audio recording of me singing on the Q7, and I don’t want to give you nightmares. Not one to hog to microphone at karaoke events, I did find myself liking the echo-y sound that was emitted from the Q7, rather like I was singing in the concert. My missus definitely likes the Q7 as she constantly carrying it around the flat, singing whatever songs come into her head. Even with the big cube stuck to it, the Q7 does not feel top heavy, so when you hold it, it actually balances in your hand quite well without it feeling too heavy.
There are of course a downside to the Q7, actually several ones. Even though the main microphone itself feels sturdy and metallic, the white plastic cube containing the speakers and switches feel like it will smash open if you drop it. You see that big golden grill on top of the microphone? Well it only picks up your voice if you sing directly from above it. But for under US$35, the TuXun Q7 wireless karaoke microphone is a lot of fun. You might not pick it up again in a years time, but for the time being you can imagine yourself as your favorite artist! Does it have a headphone/ line out jack so that you can connect it to a louder sound system?
Nope, just one input from your phone. God, if they put an output to it, it’ll be murder!
curious to know how you could play it out of your home sound system. any thoughts?
Would anyone please advise which one (model) is the better? There are too many of them in the market, and it is confusing me somehow!
Thank you very much!
my phone (ios, android) can’t see tunxun q7 what i can do connect to micrphone help me !
The phones doesn’t need to detect the q7, they should output like to headphones, but instead into the input port of the q7.
Are there knock offs of this product? When I search ebay, there is such a wide range of products that look similar. How do we know which is authentic?
There’re knock offs out there. I learned it the hard way. While visiting HK, I paid almost Cdn.$100 for a Q7 thinking it’s got to be a real one paing that price. I learned it the hard way, did some research after I came back to Canada to try and did the research, then found out the one I bought was a knock offs.
How do you tell the difference between a genuine and knock off? I just ordered one so now I’m worried.
Any good apps to use that are in English anyone ?
I have these problem while i’m using this product, it works well at first but suddenly, the microphone itself does not work, i thought it was just low battery but then i charged it and its really not working. The speakers are working, The 5 buttons are already on. Anyone tell me what should I do? I need your answer please thanks!

how to charge it. .?? where to connect another side of cable. . to mobile?
i cant use/charge it anymore because the universal charger port under the volume went in thats why i cant charge it anymore. is there any way i can open the microphone?
where i can buy this at hongkong? im from indonesia and i will go to hk
i wonder if It connects with bluetooth speaker?
It acts like a Bluetooth device the same as a speaker so prob not. It’s it’s own speaker.
How does it record? I recorded in my voice memo app on my iPhone and of course the music app shut down but I now listen to it and can barely hear it thru my iPhone speaker! Mind you, mine seems to be a knockoff. Warranty card has no address or company name.
