The Final Build
Our test build contains the Ryzen 9 7950X CPU, ASUS Crosshair X670E GENE motherboard, Colorful RTX4080 Advanced OC graphics card, and Corsair 1200W 80+ Platinum PSU. The CPU is cooled by Alphacool custom loop, which is widely described in our previous reviews.
All the PC components are from higher series and generate a lot of heat. The CPU temperature was similar when the Y40 case was opened and closed. However, the closed case affected the boost frequency and the time it was kept when the CPU and GPU were fully loaded. In short, temperatures had to be a couple of degrees higher. The way how new AMD processors work causes we can’t really see it.
The graphics card was heating up to about 62°C when the case was opened and about 5-6°C more when it was closed. It’s not the best result but a couple of degrees better than we could see in the Y60 case.
Our custom water loop doesn’t feel like the most optimal for the airflow in the Y40, but it still cools well and looks fantastic.
If we are building a modern, high-end PC, the HYTE Y40 can be an interesting chassis. We still have to reconsider everything and measure twice to avoid being surprised during the components installation. The Y60 feels more custom water-cooling friendly. Especially when we use a full-cover water block on the graphics card, the additional slots won’t matter much, but behind the graphics card will be more space for all the water cooling components like a distro plate with a pretty large pump.
