Full Load Temperatures
During our full load tests, the CPU temperature reached a staggering high of 94 degrees Celsius, which is quite worrying. GPU temps reached 82 degrees Celsius, which is also fairly high. Having said that, Asus have mitigates this problem by using their Thermal Grizzgly Liquid Metal, and dual Arc Flow fans spin 84 blades and helps to generate impressive airflow.

Verdict and Conclusion
Wow … This is the only word I can describe the performance of the ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop. This is truly one amazing laptop. Everything about it speaks class. From the high-end AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor to the onboard GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6. I can’t stress how powerful this laptop is. Remember, it only weighs 1.7kg and measures just 32.4(W) x 22.2(D) x 1.99(H) cm … and I can tell you it’s more powerful than some of my desktops I’ve built in the past, I’m serious!
During our tests, the ROG Zephyrus G14 produced some pretty good scores in all of our benchmarks … including a PCMark10 score of 6842, and a Passmark9 score of 6368. For Port Royal, we got a score of 4,122 with a DLSS score of 43.43 fps. For 3DMark Time Spy and Firestrike, we got an excellent score of 7,081 and 16,219 respectively. So overall, I’m pretty please with the overall performance and results.
The model that’ve we tested included a memory upgraded of 32GB of DDR4-3200 ram, and a larger SSD with a storage capacity of 2TB, which all helps especially if you want to use it for content creation. There are a few disappointments which I find quite frustrating … the laptop doesn’t come with a built-in webcam, a LAN/ethernet port nor does it have a SD Card reader. Having said that, Asus does include the ROG Eye 1080p clip-on webcam with the package, which is a nice bonus. For LAN port and SD Card reader, you’ll have to go and external dongle for that.
As for the rest of the I/O and connectivity, the ROG Zephyrus G14 includes USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C support DisplayPort / power delivery / G-SYNC, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.0b, 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack. You’re pretty much coverd there, so no complaints here.
One of the main selling point of this laptop is the AniMe Matrix lighting system which is found on the lid/cover of the laptop. It’s what made me fall in love with it in the first place. The display consists of 1,215 individual mini-LEDs that can be customized to dispaly images, animations ,and expresses your creativity, audio visualizations that match the music playback. The status notifications keeps you in the loop on new messages, battery life, and more.
One thing I’ve found to my surprise, is the quality of the audio produced from laptop. The Dolby Atmos definitely makes a hell of a difference in terms of audio quality, loudness and overall depth of the sound. The laptop comes with quad speakers that produces beefy bass, more dynamic range, and is almost 3 times louder than standard laptop speakers. Listening to my favourite tracks on Spotify was amazingly blissful.
The laptop features a unique rear hinge, that allows it to raise the entire back of the laptop approx. 1cm from the surface of the desk. This allows for better airflow and helps with the cooling. Ingenious!
Now let’s talk about the display. The ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with a 14″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS-Level, PANTONE Validated, Anti-Glare (100% sRGB) Display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. Now please tell me it’s more than enough … it is for me. If you want 1440p resolution, then you really need a 15.6″ screen of bigger. You can check out the ROG Zephyrus G15 instead.
Finally, battery life. Asus’s website claim the laptop can give you up to 12.5 hours of video playback or 13.7 hours of web browsing. Now remember, this is only for video playback and web browsing. In real-life situations like video editing/content creation or 1080p gaming … expect that figure to drop quite considerably. You’re looking at around 4-5 hours tops.
You can buy the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop from various retailers including Amazon. Prices start from USD $1,799 – https://amzn.to/3BeaB1c. At this price, it’s definitely worth considering, but the extra options (more ram, larger SSD) will take the price past USD $2,000+
