Benchmarks
I’ll let all the numbers do the talking…
Aida64 Memory Benchmarks
PCMark 10
PCMark 10 is the latest in our series of industry standard PC benchmarks. Updated for Windows 10 with new and improved workloads, PCMark 10 is also faster and easier to use. PCMark 10 features a comprehensive set of tests that cover the wide variety of tasks performed in the modern workplace. 3DMark v2 – Cloud Gate (DX11)
Cloud Gate is a DirectX 11 feature level 10 benchmark suitable for all classes of DirectX 10 compatible Windows notebooks and home PCs.
3DMark v2 – Time Spy (DX12)
3DMark Time Spy is a new DirectX 12 benchmark test for Windows 10 gaming PCs. Time Spy is one of the first DirectX 12 apps to be built “the right way” from the ground up to fully realize the performance gains that the new API offers. With its pure DirectX 12 engine, which supports new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading, Time Spy is the ideal test for benchmarking the latest graphics cards.
PassMark 9
Fast, easy to use, PC speed testing and benchmarking. PassMark PerformanceTest allows you to objectively benchmark a PC using a variety of different speed tests and compare the results to other computers.
Unigine Valley (ExtremeHD)
Extreme performance and stability test for PC hardware: video card, power supply, cooling system. Check your rig in stock and overclocking modes with real-life load! Also includes interactive experience in a beautiful, detailed environment.
Cinebench R15
CINEBENCH is a real-world cross platform test suite that evaluates your computer’s performance capabilities. CINEBENCH is based on MAXON’s award-winning animation software Cinema 4D, which is used extensively by studios and production houses worldwide for 3D content creation. MAXON software has been used in blockbuster movies such as Iron Man 3, Oblivion, Life of Pi or Prometheus and many more. CINEBENCH is the perfect tool to compare CPU and graphics performance across various systems and platforms (Windows and OS X).
Anvil’s Storage Utilities
Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a powerful tool that was designed in order to provide you with a simple means of assessing the read and writer performance of your Solid State Drive or Hard Disk Drive.
7-Zip LZMA Benchmark
The benchmark shows a rating in MIPS (million instructions per second). The rating value is calculated from the measured CPU speed and it is normalized with results of Intel Core 2 CPU with multi-threading option switched off. So if you have Intel Core 2 Duo, rating values must be close to real CPU frequency.
Conclusion and Verdict
It’s been more than a year ago since we reviewed a Dell laptop … the Latitude 7280. It was a fairly decent laptop which was deigned for business use, and it managed to achieve our “recommended” award.
The new upgraded or should I say “refreshed” version of the 7xxx series is really something else. For starters, the 7390 now features a Core i7-8650U with 4 cores/8 threads and 8MB cache (most of the 72xx series come with a Core i5). Second, while most laptops only feature 8GB of ram, the 7390 now come with 16GB of DDR4-2400 ram. And believe me, the more ram you have in a laptop, the smoother the experience…. it’s different feel all together.
The overall performance of the 7390 is very good and more than adequate for most daily business applications, such as Microsoft Office, web applications and occasional, but simple video editing.
For gaming however, it’s not the right laptop you. Get something else that features an onboard GeForce GPU.
The gorgeous full HD 13.3″ screen offers a resolution of 1920×1080 powered by Intel’s HD 620 onboard graphics. As far as connectivity goes … the 7390 is definitely “well connected”. You get 2 x USB 3.1 ports, Gigbit ethernet LAN port, SIM card slot, micro SD card slot, full-size HDMI 1.4 port, and a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port. Yes it’s a Thunderbolt 3 port!
You can pay the Dell Latitude 7390 from Amazon for only USD $1,250 – https://amzn.to/2Pt8XzF. It’s a little pricey for my liking … I was expecting it be sub $1,100, but with so many features I think it’s a price worth paying.
Pros:
- Latest Intel 8th Gen processor
- Kaby Lake-R architecture
- Core i7-8650U
- 16GB DDR4-2400 Ram
- FHD screen with 1920×1080 resolution
- Full size HDMI 1.4 port
- LAN port, SIM card slot, microSD card slot
- Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port
- Only 1.19Kg in weight
Cons:
- It’s a laptop designed for business, so gaming performance is limited to the onboard Intel UHD 620 graphics
- Pricey
Final Thoughts
If you’re after a powerful, feature-rich, light-weight and compact ultrabook, then the Dell Latitude 7390 is definitely a business laptop worth getting. Although it was released earlier this year around April 2018, it’s still a good purchase even for the coming year in 2019.
