Today we’ll be taking a quick look at the MSI PS63 Modern 8RC (Prestige Series) Laptop. The model we received comes with an Intel Core i7 8565U processor running at 1.8GHz (turbo boost to 4.0Ghz), and includes an onboard GeForce GTX 1050 (MaxQ) with 4GB GDDR5 ram, a Kingston 512GB SSD for storage, and 16GB DDR4-2666 ram. It’s aimed and marketed as a laptop for content creators such as streamers, vloggers, YouTubers, semi-pro photographers and budding videographers.
Weighing in at only 1.6Kg, it’s one of the lightest 15.6-inch laptop we tested to date, and it’s also one of the thinnest measuring just 15.9mm thick. MSI PS63 Modern 8RC offers some interesting features such as a large trackpad, which is 35% wider than your average trackpad. There’s also the 4-sided super thin bezel surrounding the 15.6-inch FHD IPS screen, offering a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 at 60Hz.
When you look at the MSI PS63 Modern 8RC (Prestige Series) laptop, you really have to remove the mindset of gaming. This laptop, although capable, isn’t really designed for gaming. It lacks the Steelseries RGB keyboard, there’s no gigabit ethernet LAN, and the Geforcce GTX 1050 (with MaxQ and 4GB GDDR5 ram) isn’t really enough to drive high-res 1080p gaming.
However having said that, the specs are good enough for content creation on the move. But don’t get your hopes up, in thinking that you can render 4K movies with this laptop. If you’re a vlogger, YouTuber or amateur videographer editing 1080p videos, then you’ll be fine.
We would like to say thanks to MSI for supplying the review sample. For those who don’t know who MSI is, here’s a little blurb taken from their website …

There’s no doubt, the MSI PS63 Modern 8RC is a very sleek looking and light-weight laptop, and I think one of its selling point is the thickness of only 15.9mm. Armed with a decent Core i7-8565U processor running at 1.8GHz (with turbo boost upto 4.6GHz), along with a Geforce GTX 1050 (with MaxQ and 4GB GDDR5 ram), as well as 16Gb DDR4-2666 ram, and a large 15.6-inch FHD IPS screen, it should be more than enough for most content creators.
