Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory Kit Review

A Closer Look

The appearance of the memory kits does look very nice. It has that “menacing military” look with those nice black heat spreader and PCB. According to Crucial, these kits are optimized for the latest Intel platforms and they come with life-time warranty.

Oddly, the memory ICs are actually made by SEC (Samsung Semiconductor) with the markings SEC601 K4A4G085WEBCPB, which according to the spec sheet shows that these memory ICs are actually rated at DDR4-2400. This leads me to believe that Crucial has taken these DDR4-2400 memory chips, and pre-overclocked them to DDR4-3000 … that’s why the voltages seem a little high at 1.35v. Most DDR4 modules I’ve come across operate at a lower voltage of 1.2v. See our review of the ADATA XPG Dazzle DDR4-2400 16GB Kit.

Installation

Like most memory installation, the process is very simple … just make sure you follow the instructions on your motherboard manual and be aware of the positioning of the notch on each of the memory modules.

The heatspeaders are a good height and does not foul any of the other components. As you can see from the photos above, there’s nice clearance around the processor socket and memory modules.
