Performance
Performance has been measured on our usual test platform which contains Core i7 5820K CPU and ASUS Rampage V Extreme motherboard. There were no issues with compatibility or stability during long tests. All programmed memory profiles were also working without problems.
CPU cache clock has been raised to 3.5GHz to better show differences between memory kits. At the same time every motherboard and processor supports cache frequency slightly above 3.5GHz ( usually up to 3.7GHz ) so it shouldn’t be big problem to set such speed on a home PC if you wish to compare results.
AIDA64 Memory and Cache Benchmark
Results in AIDA64 are good. It’s obvious that higher clocked memory kits will have better results in synthetic bandwidth tests but as we see Crucial Sport LT DDR4-2400 is not far behind DDR4-2666. Actually it’s the difference we wouldn’t see in daily work.
MaxxMem Preview v1.99
Single threaded performance is not so important nowadays since operating systems are balancing load and use all available processor threads. Still there are applications which are using only single thread.
As we see Crucial Ballistix Sport LT is performing good and it’s exactly between DDR4-2133 and DDR4-2666 memory kits so where it supposed to be. Also here are no big differences in performance between lower and higher clocked memory kits.
HyperPi 32M
HyperPi is performing calculations in multithreaded environment. It also loves fast memory so it’s good test to compare memory kits.
Results in HyperPi 32M are clearly limited by memory controller speed. Most DDR4-2400 and DDR4-2666 memory kits in our comparison have almost the same time. Raising CPU cache clock would help but not all motherboards are supporting cache clock much higher than 3.5GHz so we are not performing tests at higher frequency.
Cinebench R15
Cinebench is showing us how memory speed affects performance while rendering. Crucial Ballistix Sport LT achieved second score in this test what is a great result considering it was better than DDR4-2666 and DDR4-2800 memory kits. Difference isn’t big but it still counts. Tests were performed couple of times and in each case result was similar.
PCMark8
PCMark8 is testing overall performance of our computer based on popular applications. Simply, it’s one of the best benchmarks showing us general performance of our PC.
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-2400 is again performing not much worse than DDR4 kits running at higher frequency. It’s a great news for most users as to keep good performance of the X99 platform we don’t have to buy the most expensive memory kits.
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT is offering high performance and perfect stability. It’s really good option for all who are looking for DDR4 memory for gaming or any other activities like rendering.
