Conclusion and Verdict
I have tested some other Crucial memory in the past, like the Ballistix Elite or Tracer modules, and I really liked them because of their high quality and great performance.
These kits are just as good offering some unique features like a low profile heatspreader, thermal sensor and colorful LEDs, asd well good solid performance.
I was probably expecting too much from these Crucial Ballistix Sport XT modules but something is missing. This is just a standard DDR3-1866 memory like many on the market.
This kit is listed on the Crucial USA online store for $145.99, which is too much to ask for this memory. We can actually find DDR3-2133 or even 2400 at a similar price.
I wish to see this series refreshed with additional features like I am used to seeing in Crucial memory.
Pros:
- easy to configure – perfectly working XMP profile
- good support and lifetime warranty
Cons:
- unnecessary tall heatspreaders ( for those who use large CPU cooling solutions )
- green PCB ( for those who dislike green PCB )
- high price
- not much to offer above standard DDR3-1866 memory
Final words
When I received the latest Crucial Ballistix Sport XT memory series, I was counting on some more. The memory works like it is supposed to, but doesn’t overclock very far. I can recommend it to anyone who needs solid performing memory for daily usage and gaming, so for what it was designed for. The only problem is the high price, something that probably won’t convince many users to buy this memory.
