Verdict and Conclusion
This has been some fun memory to play with, it’s ability to hit clocks 50% higher than stock is impressive. It’s ability to hit 2133MHz with 9-9-9 timings at only 1.5v is quite impressive.
The heatsinks work nicely, even well over-volted and overclocked 50% the RAM was only warm to the touch with no airflow, at all. Not even case airflow, as it was not in a case. Not even CPU cooler airflow, as the CPU cooling fan was set up to not give the RAM (or motherboard) any airflow (I’m mean sometimes). They look good, too.
I like the looks of the RAM, it’s a nice combination of style and effectiveness. I find it appealing. Orange isn’t my ideal color, but it looks pretty good here.
The stock clock speed and timings are solid even at normal DDR3 voltage. At 1.35v they’re quite good. The overclocking, as previously stated, is great.
The low profile nature of this operation means that it should clear even the most style cramping heatsinks out there. This is good, especially for small form factor stuff.
The MSRP for this kit is $150, which is far too much. The current online retailer price is $100, though out of stock. Last week it was $85. At $100 this is a decent deal for the stock timings / voltage / size and good (excellent?) for the 2133-9-9-9 my kit achieved. At $150, they’re overpriced. At $85 they’re a very good deal, especially if you want/need the low power consumption of 1.35v and/or the low profile nature of them.
Lastly, let’s not forget we’re talking about 16GB of RAM here! That makes the above even more impressive.
All told there are a lot of pros:
- Good stock timings / speed.
- Low voltage / power consumption / heat production.
- Nice and should, should clear any heatsink.
- Overclocks quite well. 2133-9-9-9 is very hard to find.
- All this on a 16GB kit for $100? Yes please.
The cons list is rather short:
- MSRP is laughable. Thankfully online retailers cut the price a lot.
- Could be even shorter, if you’re feeling picky.
The only way this RAM could be better is if it overclocked even more insanely, or if the price was lower. Given the current $100 price and the overclocking this RAM did do I am very happy with this kit, and give it a 9/10 rating. I definitely recommend this kit if you’re in the market for RAM in this class.
