Specification
G.Skill RipjawsZ memory series are dedicated mainly for quad channel platforms but not only. This memory is compatible also with dual channel motherboards and should run without issues on most available platforms.
On the G.Skill’s tested motherboard list we can find P67, Z68, Z75, Z77 and X79 motherboards from various manufacturers. We will show results also on Gigabyte Z87 so keep reading next pages of this review to find out how it’s performing on this new platform.
As we see on the atached screenshots, our review sample has pretty tight timings considering memory kits available on the market nowadays.
There are two XMP profiles. Both profiles are almost the same with little timing differences due to compatibility with various motherboards. We could see similar profile configuration also in previously reviewed memory kits from G.Skill.
Above we see XMP/SPD profiles and below is more detailed timing list from XMP #1 profile that we will be using for our tests.
Both XMP profiles were working without issues on the MSI X79A-GD45 Plus and Gigabyte Z87X-OC motherboards.
Closer Look
Package as usual has been made of plastic blister. We can see sticker confirming Z87 compatibility. It’s renewed series so new kits were also tested on newest Intel chipsets even though you can’t see it on the G.Skill’s product page yet.
On the back of the package we can also see two memory sticks and label with basic specification and product numbers.
RipjawsZ from highest series are black and as we see, reviewed memory is black with black PCB. I think that many overclockers and enthusiasts are going to love that fact.
Heatspreaders looks great and should match color schemes of most gaming computers.
Modules are not low profile but aren’t much higher than standard memory kits. All who wish to use it with large CPU coolers please be sure that you have 40 mm / 1.58 inch space between memory slots and the cooler.
Memory is based on double sided Samsung IC as we can see uncoding serial number ( 4 digits – 2500 ). To find out what chips are there please check performance and overclocking page.
We can also see that our review sample has been manufactured over a month ago in September 2013. That’s important information for all who wish to buy this memory and already saw results or older reviews. New kits are probably on a different memory chips so can have slightly different sub timings and also overclocking results.
Memory looks simply great. I love this design especially in black color.n Now let’s take a look at the performance results on the next page of this review.
