Specifications
As you see on the above table, G.Skill Trident Z memory the same as other G.Skill DDR4 memory kits, has only one XMP profile and it’s enough for most users. All other settings can be adjusted manually if you wish to try lower or higher frequencies. This memory is dedicated to enthusiasts and overclockers so usually users who have no bigger problems to set memory manually in BIOS.
What’s most important is that XMP profile is working without issues. There are many memory kits on the market which have problems to run at XMP settings on Intel Skylake platform. With G.Skill we can be sure that all will work fine. We had also no issues with previously reviewed Ripjaws V memory kit.
G.Skill has changed package type and design. Trident Z memory has arrived in a small box which has all important descriptions of the product.
On the back we can find couple of words from G.Skill starting from “PERFORMANCE FOR THE TRULY EXTREME”. High expectations already. Of course we will check how extreme is performance of Trident Z memory.
On the box we will also find contact to G.Skill support. We count you will never need it but in case it’s worth to mention that G.Skill offers lifetime warranty for their memory kits. Additionally we can count on support via phone, e-mail or forums. You can also send fax but really who is using fax nowadays ?
Inside the box we can find two memory modules protected by plastic clam shell and standard addition – G.Skill logo sticker. Sticker could be more flashy saying that inside your case is something really extreme.
Memory kit itself contains two 8GB memory sticks rated to work at 1600MHz so DDR4-3200. Modules have black PCB and characteristic 8G 3200 markings. It tells us that under the heatsinks you can find original memory modules. Since I mentioned heatsinks then they’re totally new and as you see, they look great. Aluminum heatsinks are double color – black and gunmetal grey what is pretty unique. On the top is red plastic part which is removable so I count that in not far future we will also see different colors. Users of overclocking motherboard series like ASRock OC Formula or Gigabyte SOC would probably like to see it in yellow/orange.
The only thing which can count as disadvantage can be height of the modules. It may interfere with large CPU cooling solutions like recently released Scythe Ninja 4. However most enthusiasts who will be interested in this memory stick to water cooling or brands which are designing their coolers with larger memory modules on their mind.
