G.Skill TridentX DDR3-2400 CL9 Memory Kit Review

Verdict and Conclusion

XMP improvements are easily visible in the new TridentX 2400 CL9 kits. Beyond tighter main timings there are also changes in sub timings which gives much better performance than competition.

Memory looks good and the option to remove the fin is an additional advantage which can help if anyone wishes to use a large air cooler. Heatsinks are big enough to use memory without additional cooler and weren’t hot even after longer full load tests.

I had no problems with TridentX memory except already mentioned overclocking stability which is of course not guaranteed.

Memory was acting about the same on both motherboards that I was using (MSI MPower and ASUS Maximus V Gene). Performance was about the same in both cases, simply great.

Pros:

  • High performance even on XMP settings
  • Easy to configure using profiles
  • Removable heatsink fin
  • Good looks and black PCB
  • Fan with nice looking blue LEDs

Cons:

  • Stable overclocking results lower than expected

Final words: Great performance and problem-free configuration convinced me to give TridentX 2400 CL9 memory score 9/10. Also price point is quite good. All that excellent performance, high quality and good looks will cost you about $100. I can say it’s fair price for what this memory offers. I can definitely recommend TridentX series to all who are looking for extreme performance.
