Verdict and Conclusion
The GEIL EVO X DDR4-3000 16GB Dual Channel Memory Kit isn’t just about looks, although I have to say … the RGB illumination does look amazing, and it will definitely make any rig stand out. Performance-wise, it produced some pretty decent scores in all our benchmarks, which is more than I can ask for.
When it comes to setting up the RGB illumination for these modules, you’ll need a motherboard that supports the Asus Aura Sync or MSI Mystic Light Sync. The included 4-pin power cable is required and plugs straight in to the motherboard’s 4-pin RGB header. For ordinary motherboards, the RGB LEDs will work via the 3-pin 9v/12v power cable which is also included, giving you four different RGB LED breathing illumination modes – Red, Green and Blue. WARNING: Do not plug both cables in. It’s either one of the other.
I like the look of the black heat spreader, it makes them look real classy. I also like the EVO X logo which is etched in to the heat spreader. This lights up when the RGB illumination is activated.
For overclocking, I had some difficulties. I couldn’t get past DDR4-3200 speeds, and even at this speed, some of our benchmarks failed to complete. Having said that, there are no guarantee when it comes to overclocking, so I am pretty happy with the performance of these modules at the advertised speed of DDR4-3000.
Costwise, the GEIL EVO X DDR4-3000 16GB Dual Channel Memory Kit can be purchased at a price of around USD $99.00 from Newegg, which I think is very attractive. Remember, what you’re actually getting are 16GB memory kits that run at DDR4-3000 speeds with RGB illumination. Most memory kits I’ve come across only offer LED of one colour.
Pros:
- Great looks with RGB LEDs
- Nice heatspeaders
- RGB illumination – Red, Green, Blue, and RGB cycle
- Support Asus Aura Sync and MSI Mystic Ligh Sync via 4-pin RGB header
- Supports ordinary motherboards via 3-pin power
Cons:
- Not really recommended for overclocking
Final Thoughts
The GEIL EVO X DDR4-3000 16GB Dual Channel Memory Kit are perfect for any modders who want to have RGB illumination for their PC build. Not only do they look great when powered up, but the performance from the DDR4-3000 speeds is more than enough satisfy the needs of any enthusiasts or hardcore user.
