Conclusion and Verdict
Most DDR5 memory kits available on the market, come with either black/grey heatspeaders. So when GEIL introduced their Polaris RGB series wth offerings in Racing Red, Titanium Grey and Glacier White, I was like … yes! Now you can get DDR5 memory kits that can match the color scheme of your PC build. Aesthetics aside, the GEIL Polaris RGB DDR5 memory kits also performed as good as it looks too.
With AUTO settings and XMP 3.0 enabled, the GEIL Polaris RGB DDR5-5200 performed decently across the board. During the AIDA64 memory tests, we got a memory Read speed of 70,454 MB/s, Write speed of 66,945 MB/s and a Copy speed of 67,705 MB/s. That’s pretty impressive with everything set on AUTO, runnng at the default speed of DDR5-5200.
The sleek lookinhg titanium grey heatspreader does an OK job of cooling the ram. I would have liked to see a heavier duty heat spreader, just to give that extra oomph! One thing these memory modules have, that others don’t … is a surprisingly low CAS latency of 34-38-38-78. It’s one of the lowest I’ve seen for a DDR5 memory kit.
The RGB illumination is bright and mesmerising, and works great with Gigabyte’s RGB Fusion software. It should also work with no issues with other RGB eco-systems such as Asus AURA sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync and ASRock’s Polychrome Sync.
Unfortunately, I was not able to overclock these modules as much as I liked. I tried to overclock them to DDR5-5800 and DDR5-5600, and both times it would boot into Windows OK, but fail to run the full suite of memory tests. I guess these memory ICs from Micron are not up to it when it comes to overclocking. Having said that, even at the default speed of DDR5-5200, these memory modules should be more than fast enough for most users out there.
DDR5 ram is still a pretty heavy investment to make if you’re planning to build a PC using a Z690 motherboard. However, you do get the speed advantages with DDR5 ram. So, if you’re ready to go for it … then you can buy the GEIL POLARIS RGB DDR5-5200 32GB Memory Kit for around USD $315 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3uebJQL, which is curently one of the cheaper options available (in terms of price).
