Conclusion and Verdict
Installing extra memory on your laptop can dramatically increase system performance, and it’s really not all that difficult. Most laptops will have either one or two SODIMM slots for system memory. If you already have memory installed on one of the SODIMM slots … just add an extra memory module to the other slot. For laptops with only one SODIMM memory slot (usually occupied), just remove the existing memory module and install the new one. Watch the video below on how to install some Lexar SODIMM memory.
Single or Double SODIMM slots can make a HUGE difference. A double SODIMM slots means you will be able to run your laptop memory in dual channel mode, which offers a significant boost in performance. Check your laptop to see if your laptop supports dual channel memory. For our test laptop, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with 16GB of DDR4-3200 onboard (single channel), with the option to upgrade to 32GB (dual channel), via single SODIMM slot.
We managed to get some decent scores during our AIDA64 memory tests. Memory copy speed was recorded at 41,183MB/s, while read and write speeds was at 45,899 MB/s and 43,771 MB/s respectively.
Laptop memory usually come with simple packaging and lacks many features found on desktop memory, such as heatspreaders, RGB and support for XMP profiles. These are features are usually reserved for enthusiast users. What you should be more concerned with, is the speed of the memory modules that you’ll be installing. These Lexar SODIMM memory modules are rated to run at speeds of DDR4-3200 which is by far one of the fastest SODIMMs you get on the market. Most of the laptop memory that I’ve seen offer speeds of only DDR4-2666.
Amazon have not listed these SODIMMs on their catalogue yet, however you can buy similar items such as the Crucial Ballistix 32GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM – https://amzn.to/3HUnEbz TeamGroup 32GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM – https://amzn.to/3xxjdyC G.Skill RipJaws Series 32GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM – https://amzn.to/3nWPKL0
