Closer Look
Venom Red
Patriot Viper III Venom Red modules are protected by aluminum heatspreaders painted red. They’re not low profile but not as high as for some other memory that we could see in previous reviews so there shouldn’t be any issue to install them with most popular CPU cooling solutions.
Many manufacturers moved to black PCB for their high end series. I also saw some Patriot memory kits with black PCB so I’m not sure why it wasn’t used for our review samples that are actually retail packed products.
PCB color is of course not changing much besides esthetics but many computer enthusiasts are looking at these details even though PCB is barely visible when memory is installed on the motherboard.
Black Mamba
Black Mamba as its name suggests has black heatspreaders. There is a glossy sticker with Viper logo and on the back is sticker with product and serial numbers. As we see there is not big difference comparing to Venom Red modules besides different heatspreader color.
PCB is green the same as in Venom Red modules. As I already mentioned, not big issue but could be at least black to match heatspreaders.
At the end one photo with both kits together as we will be also testing all 32GB on the Z87 and X79 based motherboards.
Now let’s move further and find out how this great looking memory is performing on our testing rigs …
