The tested memory kit contains two 8GB DDR4-4000 single-rank modules. Modules are based on the latest Hynix IC, but we couldn’t check the exact IC number. Software like Thaiphoon Burner has problems with that too. Regardless of what is under the heatsinks, the RAM works without issues at XMP profiles on the latest AMD and Intel chipsets.
The memory has two XMP profiles, in case your motherboard couldn’t support the higher frequency:
- XMP#1 DDR4-4000 CL20-26-26 1.35V
- XMP#2 DDR4-3600 CL20-26-26 1.35V
These profiles should work with available Z490, Z590, X570, and B550 motherboards, as long as there are no issues with BIOS.
The Viper Elite II has quite relaxed timings but gaming standard frequency. One of the reasons why this memory has been released at such relaxed timings is compatibility with all popular motherboards. As you will find out later, Patriot could tighten the timings some more as it simply looks better and helps in sales.
The memory certainly causes no problems during tests—the XMP works without issues on ASUS and MSI motherboards with B550, X570, and Z590 chipsets. The below screenshot was taken on the MSI Z590 Unify motherboard.
