The tested Viper Elite II, 32GB DDR4-4000 kit, uses the same memory chips as the previously tested 16GB kit from the same series. The main difference is that the higher capacity kit uses dual-rank modules. Knowing how new platforms are acting, we can expect a bit higher performance from the dual-rank kit.

The memory has two XMP profiles. In case your motherboard can’t support the higher frequency, you can always use the lower-rated profile:

  • XMP#1 DDR4-4000 CL20-26-26 1.35V
  • XMP#2 DDR4-3600 CL20-26-26 1.35V

These profiles should work with available Z490, Z590, X570, and B550 motherboards, as long as there are no issues with BIOS.

The Viper Elite II has exactly the same main timings in lower and higher capacity kits. The DDR4-4000 seems a better option for Intel platforms but is also good if you have a strong AMD CPU that can run with RAM at DDR4-4000 and a 1:1 memory controller to infinity fabric ratio. However, most AMD processors will be limited to DDR4-3600 or one memory ratio higher, while higher memory frequency at asynchronous ratios causes a limited performance.

The memory was tested on ASUS and MSI motherboards with B550, X570, and Z590 chipsets, and there were no problems. The below screenshot was taken on the MSI Z590I Unify motherboard, on which we will also check the performance and overclocking potential.

Let’s move to the next page to check the package contents.
