Patriot Viper Steel 64GB DDR4-3600 Memory Kit Review

Package and its Contents

The Viper Steel DDR4-3600 arrived in a retail packaging, which is a small, flat box. The box is well described, so we clearly know what is inside.

Inside the box, we will find two memory modules and a Viper Gaming sticker. Since this is a memory kit, then we don’t really need anything else.

Viper Steel has quite an original design. Maybe it’s not the best-looking memory, but for sure, it has its style, and there is nothing similar on the market. Some users may like it, some not but for sure it fits gaming computers. It also doesn’t have any lighting what for many users is already an advantage. We can even see that some motherboard manufacturers are starting to release whole black or white motherboards without additional R lighting like quite popular MSI Unify. The truth is that the illumination helps in sales, but those who are counting on pure performance don’t care about it much while it usually raises the price.

The tested Viper Steel memory kit is rated at DDR4-3600. There are still not many memory kits at such a high capacity and so high frequency, so it can be an interesting option for all those who need a lot of RAM. For regular gamers, 16GB is just right, while some may go for 32GB because of quite reasonable prices. 64GB is recommended for all those who are planning home workstations and are into graphics or video editing. Since there are only two 32GB memory modules, then we can install them even on the smallest, ITX motherboards that weren’t possible two years ago.

There are many other ways to utilize additional RAM like RAM disks, which are less popular recently because of the availability of fast SSD but can still have their advantages.

A higher capacity RAM usually brings some performance sacrifice. However, it’s not a rule, so let’s move to the next page to see how our memory kit performs in tests.
