Conclusion and Verdict
Let me start off by saying these were quite the surprise. I mean the number speak for themselves. These are the fastest ram modules I have tested to date. And what makes this so surprising is these aren’t the lowest timings either. 3600MHz with a CL20, I wasn’t expecting those kind of results. This is some blazing fast RAM when paired with an AMD 3700X. No adjustment needed I just turned on the XMP profile and went on. Higher read speeds and lower latency number will always equal better performance. Now, unlike graphics cards, when you can easily predict performance by MHz and Cores. Predicting the performance of RAM can be difficult. These results can back up that claim. I would have not predicted this kit would have been that good in the benchmarks. Now there is always the option to tighten the timings a little more but that can vary from module to module so I don’t really publish those results because your mileage will vary depending on your particular setup. I like to stick with what is guaranteed and that is the 3600MHZ and CL20, that Patriot has setup on the XMP profile. With that being said if you are a seasoned RAM overclocker, then these might have some hidden performance just waiting to be unlocked.
RAM can be overclocked and underclocked to achieve the timings you are looking for. I have seen this go both way. You can gain performance in one benchmark but lose it in another. So it is best to find that happy medium. And that medium is usually provided by the manufacture. They thoroughly test their RAM a lot more than we do and we can trust that Patriot has put in that effort. We are basically reporting, what they claim there RAM is capable of running at and they don’t guarantee anything past that. But their is more performance we can squeeze out of RAM just by changing the timings by one point. The best thing about overclocking RAM, Its hard to destroy. Usually if you set something wrong it usually just wont boot. Just don’t crank the voltages over the rating and you should be safe changing all the other stuff. Familiarize yourself with your CMOS reset because you will be utilizing it quite often.
