Conclusion and Verdict
Over the past few months, we’ve noticed more and more manufacturers have been producing DDR5 memory kits with high capacities such as 48GB, 96GB and even 192GB kits! In fact, we’re already reviewed several memory kits with higher capacities including the Kingston Fury Renegade RGB 96GB DDR5-6400, the V-Color Manta XPrism RGB 48GB DDR5-8200, as well as Crucial Pro 96GB DDR5-5600… all of which performed amazingly well.
However, one thing to take into consideration is that not all motherboards will take higher capacity ram, so be sure to check the QVL list on the motherboard’s website, and also update the BIOS to the latest version. You also need to be aware that some motherboards may not support memory speeds above 8000MT/s… in most cases, 8000MT/s is the maximum that can be stabilized on AMD and Intel motherboards.
With all memory settings on AUTO and XMP 3.0 enabled, the Patriot Viper xtreme5 DDR5-8200 48GB memory kits produced excellent scores in all of our benchmarks. During the AIDA64 memory tests, we got a Memory Read speed of 118,810 MB/s, Write speed of 99,282 MB/s and a Copy speed of 102,810 MB/s.
These results are the fastest we’ve seem to date! And it’s all thanks to the SK Hynix memory ICs that Patriot uses, which have been specially selected and screened. And don’t forget, all the modules have been 100% hand tested and tuned for maximum perfomance.
If you’re after RGB, then you’re out of luck. These memory kits don’t come with any. All you get is a red plastic strip that runs along the entire length of the memory module. I guess RGB is not that important, especially when the main focus of these memory kits is to achieve higher DDR5 speeds, and of course overclocking. You can check out Bart’s overclocking results (up to DDR5-8600) on Overclockers.com.
That said, if you do want RGB, Partiot does offer them at lower speeds and lower capacities such as the Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 DDR5-7600 32GB Kits.
For cooling, the memory kits comes with some nice black heatspreaders that seems to do an adequate job of cooling the ram. Full load temps reached a high of between 63-65 degrees Celisus. It might seem a little high, but it’s what we expected, especially when you’re running the memory modules at higher voltage and faster speeds.
You can buy the RGB Version – Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 DDR5-8200 48GB Memory Kit for around USD $325 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3TOKhG9
Final Thoughts
The Patriot Viper Xtreme5 DDR5-8200 48GB is currently the fastest memory kits we’ve tested so far (if you have the right motherboard that can support 8200MT/s or above). It offers pretty decent timings at 38-48-48-84 @ 1.45V, and with XMP 3.0 Profiles enabled, it performs amazingly well at default speeds of DDR5-8200 right out of the box.
