Verdict and Conclusion
Coming down to the end, I’m pretty happy with this set of ram. Not only is it quite capable of running at it’s advertised clock speed and timings (this isn’t a given, I’ve bought ram kits that would not!), it stays nice and cool thanks to the Viper Xtreme heatspreaders and has some overclocking room as well.
Performance wise this kit is a nice balance between high speed and high price, while tighter timings would be nice and perform a bit faster most users don’t really need anything faster then this.
Given it’s price point (as of this review, Newegg.com sells it for $90) the performance is solid, but not spectacular, it looks like you’re paying about $10 for the copper in the heatsink. For many users that may well be worthwhile, it will help keep the ram alive in a case that doesn’t have dedicated ram cooling.
Final words. Overall, I’m happy with Patriot’s Viper Xtreme Triple Channel 1600 kit, it does exactly what it says it will do, is a pretty good value for the money, and it’s plug-n-play performance if you don’t go into bios is well above average. The heatsink I like a lot, it is a very good design in my opinion.
There are cheaper kits with these timings out there, which costs this kit a point. The heatsinks may offset this for your application however. The dubious packaging costs another point.
Other then those two issues I think that Patriot did a good job on these sticks, if you’re looking for mid range memory this kit would be a solid choice.
Winston’s Comments. I agree with Bobnova’s verdict. The Partiot’s Viper Xtreme Triple Channel 1600 kit, offers very good performance and decent overclocking ability … at a price which I think is pretty attractive. What makes them stand out are the great looking heatspreaders which provides excellent cooling.
