Package and its Contents
The V-Color SODIMM memory arrived in a retail package, which is a small, flat box. Most competitive brands use only a blister package for SODIMM modules, while V-Color puts the blister in cardboard with an additional product description. Not much, but it gives a feeling of a high-quality product.
The package contains two memory modules and nothing else. The installation is straightforward, and even less advanced users can handle it without problems. The manual isn’t required, but the manufacturer’s website has required guides, and every motherboard also includes a RAM installation manual.
The 5600MT/s memory kit does not look much different from other SODIMM DDR5 modules. The main difference is the label with product and serial numbers, which covers one of the RAM’s sides.
Since it’s a memory designed for laptops, it has no heatsinks or RGB. The required size doesn’t allow heatsinks, and they’re unnecessary since the memory uses a 1.10V voltage. RGB illumination wouldn’t have any point in a closed, tight space under a laptop’s cover. It would still be interesting to see SODIMM with RGB for SFF computers, but only a few gaming and enthusiast motherboards use SODIMM, so a product like that wouldn’t sell well.
The tested memory kit uses Hynix A-die IC, the best choice for 16GB and 32GB modules. It’s also rated to work up to 85°C. DDR5 can stand higher temperatures and shouldn’t lose stability if it’s not overclocked too high. The tested memory kit on our desktop ITX motherboard kept around 55°C without any additional airflow, so there is still quite a headroom if we wish to overclock it.
The memory kit works great on our Minisforum motherboard, which doesn’t have good BIOS support and sometimes causes problems with various RAM. The tested memory kit was working exceptionally well, passing the initial training faster than most other SODIMM memory kits tested before, and it also matched nearly all the SPD settings. Even though not guaranteed, the overclocking was also easier than on some other memory kits.
