Unlike other keyboards, Corsair has added two different switches into it’s keyboard at the same time! First, the MGX Hyperdrive Magnetic Switches which are Hall Effect switches meaning the you are able to adjust the actuation. These are installed in the middle part of the keyboard for the main gaming keys. The other switches are MLX Plasma Linear Mechanical Switches which are not Hall Effect and have been installed on the keys around the keyboard (F1, F2, F3…etc. and keys on the right side).
The Product in Action!
To power the keyboard all you have to do is attach the USB Type-C to Type-A cable which is 1.8 meters long! There is no wireless connection option however the wired connection helps to support 100% anti-ghosting, ensuring that every keystroke is registered accurately and without delay. The RGB lighting works as soon as you plug in the keyboard and can be customized in Corsair’s iCUE software.
Having tested the Hall Effect switches with adjustable actuation, I am very impressed by Corsair. Not only are the switches very responsive and customizable, they also sound incredible thanks to the sound foam dampening layers.
The Software
Corsair has linked this keyboard into its iCUE software for easy and in depth customisation. For example, lighting effects, key assignments, key actuation, control dial settings and performance settings. These are all very useful features to have and I am glad this keyboard offers that support since many keyboards from other brands don’t.
The lighting effects section allows you to change between many effects and colours that fit to your liking which is a good feature to have if you like RGB! The key assignments are also very easy to set by just pressing the key you want to assign and choose what action you want it to perform when pressed. Unique to this keyboard is the key actuation section where you can adjust the actuation levels for your keyboard. In this section you are also able to see which switches are Hall Efect (light blue).
