Closer Look
The RX85 RGB keyboard arrived in a retail package which is a quite large flat box. The package is well described and tells us about everything we may need to know about the product inside.
The package design is similar to that of other Genesis products. It could be more flashy, considering the keyboard is designed for gamers. It’s just not shouting “buy me” from the retail store shelves (I had a chance to see some Genesis products in local stores).
Inside the box, except for the keyboard, we will find a short user’s manual. Since it’s a keyboard, then we don’t need any detailed installation manual. What’s the most important is that inside the user’s guide is info on using various shortcuts on the keyboard itself.
The keyboard has Kailh Brown switches which seem like a perfect choice. The keys offer a fast reaction, a long lifetime – up to 50 million clicks, and are not as loud as that of typical mechanical keyboards. I type a lot, and the noises made by most mechanical keyboards are simply annoying. The RX85 is not silent but has this issue limited.
I like that the RX85 RGB is equipped with a wrist rest. It’s installed with magnets, so it’s easy to attach. I also like the fully braided USB cable which looks durable, but I wasn’t checking its limits. Many keyboards still have a standard cable, while the braided one looks better and is one of the premium accessories features. Even if it doesn’t change much from the functional side, then it affects the end-user experience.
The RX85 RGB offers us various gaming features like anti-ghosting for all keys or an option to lock the windows key or others. There is also a volume dial which makes adjusting sound easier.
The Genesis software offers us to save profiles, sign various combos under keys and make anything else that may give us an advantage in our favorite games. The combo/macro saving is the same as in all top gaming mice and keyboards, so besides the keys, we can sign delays between each click. It’s nothing that could be very complicated.
One of the main features is the key backlight. The Genesis software lets us manage all RGB illumination options and sign various color modes to all keys. We can mix modes or set static colors. The list of modes is actually much longer than in most RGB keyboards. There are missing some modes from previously reviewed Genesis keyboards, but there are some new ones.
Below you can see how the keyboard looks during work.
The only thing I would change in keys is the used font. As you can see in the photos, when the backlight is brighter, then many signs seem blurred. This is something that wasn’t so visible in the previously reviewed Genesis keyboards.
The RX85 RGB is an interesting option for all gamers searching for a keyboard that will give everything at once, comfort, quiet work, various adjustments, RGB illumination, and gaming-grade functionality.
