Genesis THOR 404 TKL Gateron Gaming Keyboard Review

Closer Look

The THOR 404 TKL arrived in a retail package, which is quite a small box for a keyboard. The box is well described in a couple of languages and has key features listed on the box’s exterior. Everything we may want to know is printed on the back.

Inside the box, besides the keyboard, we will find a quick installation guide, two spare switches, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a tool for easy key removal. Everything is well-protected, and this suggests that the product is high quality.

The THOR 404 is small but large enough to be comfortable while typing longer. The new Gateron switches react quickly, and we don’t have to put much pressure on them, so it’s an excellent option for long gaming sessions and typing. It’s the perfect option if we mix work with gaming on the same PC.

The keyboard has a classic layout but is fully programmable, so we can adjust every key as we wish. We can also sign macros to specific keys. We can make a potent tool from a small keyboard for our daily challenges.

All the keys are replaceable. In the package, we will find two additional switches if something happens. However, we can use different types of switches for selected keys if we really wish to. Genesis adds a handy and easy-to-use tool to remove keys and switches.

The keyboard, in general, is quite durable. We were not checking how much it could stand, but it felt like nothing should happen if we dropped it a couple of times on the ground. On the other hand, on the back are rubber pads that help to keep it in place, and it shouldn’t move on the desk. The legs can be adjusted, too, so we can pick one of three heights.
The keyboard is connected via a high-end USB-A to USB-C cable. If anything happens to the cable, then it can be easily replaced. However, it’s also durable, thick, but quite soft, with a braided finish. It’s about the same as we can find in the most expensive keyboards from brands like HyperX.

The THOR 404 TKL is available with different switches and in black or white color. Every option has a full RGB backlight, which can be easily adjusted with Genesis software.

Below are additional photos of the THOR 404 TKL with the RGB backlight in various modes.

I will tell you more about the software and RGB lighting management on the next page.
