Verdict and Conclusion
Continuing from my earlier point about the design. Well, I can see what they were going for, and I applaud their willingness to try to combine two essential pieces of hardware into one device. Combos can be great, but this isn’t really one of them. Not that it’s a particularly bad one either, it just could be better.
On the one hand, you get a sturdy mouse with decent tracking and built-in camera with fairly decent quality. But on the other hand, the issues of switching back and forth, coupled with the slightly lesser image quality, isn’t really escapable. Again, it’s a pretty cool gadget, but the execution is a bit off. I can’t blame Genius for how it turned out, per se, as I don’t really believe anyone else could do it much better given the idea.
Now we come to the price tag. This is truly the equalizing factor, because at an average of $30.00 USD, it doesn’t impose upon your savings by any stretch of the imagination.
Pros:
- Decent video quality.
- Tracks well on tough surfaces.
- QR code scanner.
- Fair price.
Cons:
- Gimmicky design.
- Noisy buttons.
- Image capture is somewhat difficult.
Final words
If you’re still interested in checking it out, I’d say give it a shot at least for curiosity’s sake. As is though, you might be better off sticking with an independent mouse and webcam. Not a terrible product, however, because you’ll still get something suitable for everyday activities and video chat, and the selling point isn’t too demanding. So there’s definitely redeeming qualities, but perhaps not enough to convince you outright.
