A Closer Look
Upon removing the Gila mouse from the packaging, I noticed immediately that the pictures on the package do not do this mouse justice. The mouse is equal parts curvy and edgy in shape and is medium in size. The build quality is superb as the mouse feels very sturdy and well-built. The black finish has a flat appearance and is highlighted with glossy buttons, red trim, and white text. The mouse is fits greatly in the palm of the hand. The mouse is also symmetrical and would be comfortable for any user, regardless of which hand they use. The USB cable is of adequate length and is also braided while the USB connector is gold-plated. There are some other high-end gaming mouse out there that do not offer these extras.
Each side of the mouse has a textured rubber grip that is large enough for even the biggest fingers. The grips are also non-intrusive and very effective. The grips are subtle as to not protrude and feel awkward. These most certainly make a difference in overall control and handling of the Gila. The left side of the mouse has two buttons, while the right has none.
The shape and angles from certain vantage points make this mouse look menacing; the Gila mouse is really that cool! The scorpion logo is a nice touch also and adds to the overall aggressive appearance for sure. This mouse alone may be just enough to intimidate your foes at the next LAN party! At the rear and toward the bottom of the mouse, we find a button labled “open”. When pressed, a trap door is revealed. Beneath this door reveals a compartment where up to six optional weights can be installed to the user’s preference. Those weights are 4.5 grams each.
Looking at the bottom of the Gila mouse, the first thing that I noticed was the large surface areas for each of the mouse skates. This attribute certainly helps with acceleration, precision, and control. This also means a longer life since the weight of the mouse is spread further out across all of the skates. Bravo for that design!
The laser, as we stated before, is a revolutionary 8200 dpi gaming core which transtlates into some serious speed. To some gamers, this is a neccessity for MMO or RTS gaming, especially if you are playing these sorts of games competitively.
Now that we have taken a closer look at the Gila, we will take a look at the graphical user interface software!
