Verdict and Conclusion
I promised an explanation for my previous statement, and I shall give one. The title may be a bit misleading. Make no mistake, the G265 is indeed classified as a gaming keyboard; however, that’s mostly because of the usual stuff, i.e. the lights and swappable keys, and maybe even the USB ports, as opposed to having a thousand bells and whistles that you’d come to expect.
But that’s really the name of the game here (no pun intended, I swear), because at an average $40.00 USD retail price, you get the feel of a gaming keyboard for the price of an above-average office keyboard. More than reasonable in my opinion. I mean let’s face it, if you want something that ends up looking more like a modded sports car than a keyboard, you’re most likely going to pay a much larger fee.
It’s a refreshing change from the experimental cam-mouse that lends credence to the fact that Genius is certainly capable of making good products for good prices.
Pros:
- Lights!
- 20 anti-ghosting keys
- Independent media keys
- Good price
Cons:
- Not mechanical
- Not too many extra features
- Squeaky spacebar
Final Words:
All things considered… Gaming is smooth and doesn’t leave you hanging in the middle of a firefight, even if your teammates sometimes do, and typing is a breeze for those of us who are in the business of text. So maybe it doesn’t quite complete the ensemble of over-the-top fanatical gaming, but it’s a great deal for anyone who wants a near experience minus a second mortgage. If that doesn’t count for something, I guess I don’t know what does. So yes, all things considered…not bad, not bad at all.
