Genius Maurus FPS Professional Gaming Mouse Review

Performance

So you are probably wondering just how this mouse performs under pressure. Just relax I am getting to it. The maximum DPI setting available is 4000. Yeah…I know, it is kinda low compared to the previous models we have had on this site. If you are one of those gamers that really loves extra special displacement with every single flick of the wrist, well I am sorry to say that you will be a bit limited but more on that in the verdict section. For now I can say with a certain measure of confidence that this mouse will not disappoint most gamers from all the different genres.

Now I personally prefer a lower DPI setting because I am not too comfortable with one that ends up in my aiming at an opponent and then .001 seconds later has me shooting at every molecule around the player except for the player. Call me a low-skill gamer if you want, but that is just me. And even with the 4000 DPI max, you will still be able to enjoy most fast-paced games, and slower-paced RTS titles, without feeling left out or undercut. Trust me on that. And speaking of RTS, the Maurus provides a steady flowing rate of scrolling on maps which is great for reasons already mentioned. Do you like trying to order units to destroy an enemy castle only to wind up hitting all four courners of the mini-map in a span of five seconds? Yeah, I did not think so, and you generally will not find yourself hitting your head against the screen as a result.

On to the included software. Genius has graciously included the necessary drivers so you do not have to wait online for them to download before testing it out. Note: you can just go ahead and plug it in and be fine, but if you want the full range of control you will need to install the software.

From my experience I can say it is pretty intuitive. Everything you could need or want is literally at your finger tips, and there is plenty of options for customization. You will also be glad to hear that you can adjust the rate at which the light pulsates or you can simply leave it on a steady glow for those midnight rounds. Either way, you will be able to adjust everything accordingly to your liking and personal taste. There is not a whole lot more to say about the software that could not be said about most other driver suites, so we will go ahead and move along to the final verdict.

Verdict

That is the Maurus Gaming mouse in a nut shell. I hope that you have found this review just as informative and fun as I did. Remember that you can always check out our forums if you have any further questions about specific details that we may have forgotten to mention. Overall, I got a good deal of entertainment out of the Maurus and will definitely continue to enjoy it as time goes on and my library of games grows.

There is just one problem. Coming in at about $60.00 USD it is not one of the cheapest mice in its field, especially considering that you can find an equally priced mouse with a higher DPI range. Still, if nothing else it is proof that Genius is capable of making high-quality gaming equipment. And given the easy use of the software, the comfortable feel and the overall design makes this one stand out in a crowd. It is not overly flashy, yet it is just enough to give you an enjoyable gaming sensation.

Pros

  • For left and right handed people
  • 6 Buttons
  • Great Color and Design
  • DPI of 4000

Cons

  • A bit pricey
  • Not as High a DPI as others for similar price

Final words:

Overall, the Maurus is a decent mouse for a decent price. It is hard to come up with any truly negative attributes that would make me second-guess buying it if you are in the market. Just make sure you know what you want and how you play best. Either way, you’ll get a nice, personalized feel with the Maurus that will be sure to take you into the longest matches of gaming or just plain single-player marathons without fatigue or frustration. I would say that adds up to a rather attractive package that fills a special place on my desk and, I hope, yours too.
