Verdict and Conclusion
I’ve owned several gaming keyboards in the past, and most of them were pretty good but bulky in size. With the Gigabyte Aorus K9, I have to say I was very impressed with its size, features and quality.
Firstly, it’s REALLY splash-proof as you can see from the video. Second, I love these replaceable Flaretech RED switches and keycaps, it’s first keyboard I’ve seen that has this feature. And finally, a 2 meter braided cable with cable management is a real added bonus.
Using the keyboard for normal everyday task in Windows is great. For gaming … the keys are extremely responsive and the RGB Fusion works flawlessly. This is all thanks to the Flaretech RED switches. It uses optical actuation rather than the traditional mechanical switches, giving you a 0.03ms debounce time. What’s more these switches feature high quality steel springs which are ultra durable offering up to 100 Million Keystrokes.
The only thing I thought Gigabyte could to better here … is the price. Costing around USD $140, it’s not exactly cheap. At that price (or maybe a little more), you could get a very nice Steelseries gaming keyboard.
You can buy the Gigabyte Aorus K9 Optical Mechanical gaming keyboard from various e-tailers for around USD $140.
Pros:
- REAL Splash-Proof (Hydrophobic Conformal Coating)
- Features Flaretech RED switches
- Chatterprrof
- 9 spare switches and keycaps
- Aorus Engine / RGB Fusion
- Full RGB backlighting
Cons:
- None I can think of
Final thoughts
The Gigabyte Aorus K9 Optical Mechanical gaming keyboard is a real gem. It’s compact and smaller than most gaming keyboards I’ve come across. The Flaretech RED switches are super responsive and best of all, the keyboard if completely splash-proof. If you’re a gamer who’s after a durable and responsive RGB gaming keyboard, then there’s no reason not to put this on your shopping list.
