HyperX Alloy Origins Core RGB Gaming Keyboard Review

Closer Look

The package is a flat box that isn’t much larger than the keyboard itself. The exterior will tell us everything about the contents, including used switches that are, of course, HyperX Aqua, as mentioned before. There are three options to choose from, but I’m glad we’ve received the Aqua version as I had no chance to test it before.

Inside the box, except the keyboard, we will find a USB-C to USB-A cable, user’s manual, and HyperX product cards. It’s everything we may need.

I recommend installing HyperX NGENUITY software as it automatically updates the keyboard’s firmware and gives us more options than we could set from the keyboard. For example, we can set many more illumination modes from the keyboard; we have access to only three modes based on the rainbow color switch. Those users who type a lot may like static light more. Of course, all modes have multiple brightness stages. For me, the perfect brightness is somewhere in the middle, but of course, it’s a personal preference.

The software also gives us additional options like macros or shortcuts, that can be handy in games. Especially MMORPG require to use a lot of keys and combos where macros are often the difference between a win and lose.

The cable is braided and looks durable. For sure it will last a long time, and we don’t have to worry about it if we travel a lot. Since it’s detachable and looks like a standard, just high-quality, USB cable, then I assume we could use any other cable if we forget to take the one which comes with the keyboard.

The keyboard is tenkeyless what causes it to be smaller and just a perfect size for most gamers who don’t use a numeric pad. Most gamers don’t use most keys, so I find a smaller size a big advantage, especially when we move with our keyboard more often or use additional devices on the desk.

Two-step feet let us set three angles so we can pick the one which is the most comfortable. I found the 3° angle, so with hidden feet, just perfect for me. I didn’t need much time to get used to the Alloy Origins. For some months, I was using the Alloy Core keyboard reviewed a while ago, and I can say that the Alloy Origins feels better. Regardless if I’m typing or playing games, I have better control and fewer times I have to correct anything.

Let’s say a couple of words about keys. I’m not a fan of tall keys, what I already said in my previous HyperX reviews. However, the Alloy Origins with Aqua keys feels like it was flatter than it really is. Even though it clearly looks like keys are tall, then while typing, I don’t feel that. Keys react much faster than those based on red switches, and the whole typing is somehow lighter. I simply don’t have to push buttons until the end, so everything goes smoother during faster typing.

I was satisfied with the Alloy Core keyboard, which felt better in games than most other keyboards I had a chance to use. The Alloy Origins simply feels like a better keyboard even though we could think there is not much more that could be improved. It works so well that I’m simply using it and not thinking about it.

Below are some additional photos with the keyboard during work. Additional modes can be set and adjusted in the NGENUITY software. If we have other HyperX products with RGB lighting, then we can control everything from one, simple to use application.

Even though the keyboard looks amazing with all these rainbow colors, I prefer static light, either white or blue, easy for the eyes but still highlights keys. There are so many options that everyone can pick something optimal.

The Alloy Origins is right now, my favorite keyboard, and I guess I won’t change it anytime soon. It took me three weeks to test it in various games and while writing articles. It’s so far the best keyboard I was testing, and can recommend it to all gamers.
