Included in the package when you purchase your keyboard is just your basic manual, steelseries sticker, PS/2 adapter, and the keyboard itself. No software is needed so plug it in and start getting used to the mechanical keys.

Closer Look

If weight is any indication of build quality, this keyboard would be up there. It is quite heavy for being made mostly of plastic. It is not as heavy as my 1980s IBM keyboard, but it isn’t exactly light. One thing I like is that it is what you could consider normal sized for a keyboard. Since it doesn’t have 5 LCD screens and 9million macro buttons it can still retain a compact shape which is great if you have a smaller desk.

One thing I must note is that you MUST get used to the smaller shift key. They have taken a page from the oldschool mechanical keyboards and have a half-length shift key. This change took me more than a week to get used to and I’m still not completely used to it yet. Steelseries, for your next mechanical keyboard, please keep the shift key the “newer” standard length. It would have been nice to take the keyboard out of the box and go to town with it, but the first few days were quite frustrating with the smaller shift key. That isn’t to say that its impossible to get used to the smaller shift key, it is just an inconvenience that you must overcome should you buy this product.

The USB connector is nice and thick so you wont have to worry about it breaking off after prolonged use. It is also gold-plated so you will be getting optimum contact to your motherboard. But enough of the features, lets see how this keyboard does in real life useage. Specifically in typing, and gaming.
