Steelseries Guild Wars 2 Mouse Review

First Impressions

At first glance, there is no mistake which game this mouse is modeled for. Guild wars 2 branding is found all over the box. Steelseries does this branding tastefully with the great looking GW2 mouse found on four sides of the box. The back has a few basic facts about the mouse and some specs as well. Opening the box you get a view of the actual mouse through its plastic clam-shell.

Closer Look

Taking the mouse out of the box, I am first impressed by the vibrant colors on the mouse itself. The dragon on the front of the mouse looks gerat. Red plastic on the bottom, along with the red buttons contrast nicely with the black and white on the mouse. While the cable is not braided, it is a thick red plastic cable. It feels solid, but people with pets that like to chew on cables might need to watch out since it will be easier to cut into than a braided cable. After taking the mouse out of the package I would suggest pulling the cable straight to make sure that you have no bends, otherwise it can affect mouse performance due to getting caught on desks or mousepads.

Weighting on the GW2 mouse feels balanced. It is not exactly a tiny mouse, but the weight is distributed throughout the mouse evenly so even if it does weigh a little bit more , it does not feel heavy. If you are coming from a very light mouse there will be a difference, but after a couple hours of use the feel of the extra weight should go away.

This mouse comes with two side buttons on each side of the mouse. Out of the box it is set up for righties. The left side of the mouse is set up for back+forward in web-browsers, and the right side is setup for going up and down on a browser page.

As a nice touch, Steelseries has included a glowing Guild Wars 2 logo. It glows red to match the glowing red scroll wheel. The sensor on the bottom does not glow at all which is quite different than what I’m used to from most mice.

Testing

Testing was done over a 6-day period.Daily activities such as browsing the internet and gaming were done to put the mouse through its paces. Tracking is very good with this mouse. Cloth and plastic mouse pads both tracked flawlessly  As a welcome change, this mouse even tracked great on a piece of glass with a black backing.

Gaming performance was solid after getting used to the extra weight that this mouse brings to the table(from what I was used to with my previous mouse). The sensors for clicking the mouse is also very accurate. At no time throughout testing did I ever experience any mis-clicks or double-clicks. If you are a person who plays many different types of games, Steelseries has a built-in button that will change DPI on the fly between two profiles.
