Tesoro Excalibur Spectrum Mechanical Keyboard Review

Conclusion and Verdict

In conclusion, I really loved using the Excalibur for my everyday use. The Excalibur works with out any software. All I had to do was plug it in and windows found the right driver. However, with out the software you are unable to adjust the RGB lights, set-up macros, or change key assignments. Basically, the Excalibur Spectrum is stuck in PC mode with out any software. The software is fairly easy to use and once downloaded you unlock all the great features of the Excalibur. This keyboard allows for 6 different profiles. One of which is the basic PC mode. However, Tesoro gives you 5 profiles that you are able to change key assignments, record macros, select between 16.8 million colors, launch programs, and even sync a profile to a certain game. Tesoro has truly made a great RGB mechanical keyboard.

As stated above, I really loved using the Excalibur Spectrum! The thing I loved most was the simple yet professional look of the keyboard. The Excalibur looks just like your everyday standard keyboard from afar. You don’t know what you are getting until you pick this baby up! Have I mentioned that the Excalibur also comes with 512 kbs of on board memory. Once the keyboard’s profile are set up, you no longer need to use the software with any other type of unit.

Just plug and play! I really loved that about this keyboard, because I was able to take this baby anywhere. With the simple look of the keyboard, I had no problem with bringing attention to myself at the office! Yet with the backlighting options available, I was still able to show off my gear around friends. Best of both worlds!! I only had a couple things that I did not like about the Excalibur. One would be that there is no pass through USB like my Cougar keyboard.

There seems to be an outline where Tesoro was looking to put one. The rest would have to do with the software. Of which I have already went into detail in the software edition of this review.

Tesoro’s Excalibur Spectrum can be found at various e-tailers for around $130 USD.

Pros:

  • Well built chassis
  • 60 million clicks
  • Mechanical
  • Price
  • Full N-key Rollover
  • Gold plated USB plug
  • Braided cable
  • Plug and Play
  • Professional Design

Cons:

  • No Wrist rest
  • No USB pass through
  • Downloading software
  • Software is only used for single device

Final thoughts:

Tesoro’s Excalibur Spectrum is a very well built mechanical keyboard. You are able to take this keyboard anywhere with out ever downloading any software. With the simple yet professional design of the Excalibur, you are even able to take this keyboard to the office with out any one being the wiser. Yet, this is still a gaming keyboard we are talking about! Feature like recordable macros, RGB LED lights, full N-key rollover, and 512 Kb of on board memory is what sets the Excalibur apart from the rest! Especcially for the price of only $130 USD. I would definitely recommend the Excalibur Spectrum to anyone that is on a budget and loves traditional looking gear!
