ASRock B550 TAICHI – RAZER EDITION Motherboard Review

The Box and Packaging

The box and packaging is HUGE to say the least, and inside you’ll find 2 smaller boxes. One holds the motherboard itself, while the other contains all the accessories. And in that box, you’ll find a quick installation guide, software setup guide, 2 packs of SATA cables (pair), 1 x screw driver, 3 x M.2 screws and mounts, and WIFI antenna for your WIFI6. There’s also a pair of the velcro cable straps and a drivers disc.

The ASRock B550 Taichi Razer Edition Motherboard

As usual, the motherboard comes in an all matte black finish, with RAZER Edition branding on the I/O hood, and a metal back-plate etched with the words “By Gamers For Gamers”. The usual features from ASRock, inlcude the XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink with heat-pipe, the built-in flexible I/O shield, and a full cover heat shield for the chipset and M.2 SSDs.

The M.2 slots for your SSDs can be accessed by removing the heat shield using the included hex screw driver provided by ASRock. Appearance-wise, the ASRock B550 Taichi Razer Edition looks identical to its bigger brother the X570 Taichi Razer Edition, except of course there’s no active cooling fan for the chipset on the B550 version.

A Closer Look

As far as expansion is concerned, the ASRock B550 Taichi Razer Edition comes with 8 x SATA ports, 3 x PCIE 4.0 x16 steel slots, 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x1 Slots, 1 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4 x4), 1 x Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4 & SATA3), and 4 x DIMM slots supporting memory speeds of up to DDR4 5300+ (O.C.).

And of course, like all ASRock Taichi series of motherboards, you’ll also find the usual onboard power-on/off, clear CMOS and reset buttons, as well as the diagnostic LEDs. There’s not active cooling fan for the B550 chipset, but you do get the full cover heat shield for the chipset and M.2 SSDs.

On closer inspection, you’ll find 2 x 8-pin CPU/Motherboard power connectors, which is great if you need that extra power and stability during overclocking. There’s also the the distinctive LED strip, which you’ll find on along the right underside of the motherboard, and this is fully programmable via the Razer Chroma RGB software.

For connectivity, you’ll find 2 connectors for your WIFI antenna, a clear CMOS and BIOS flashback buttons, DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 2.0, HDMI, 6 x USB 3.2 Gen1, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (Rear Type A+C)  Killer 2.5GB LAN, and the usual array of connectors for HD audio.
