Overclocking
Disclaimer: Overclocking is never guaranteed so that the results may vary depending on certain conditions and various hardware configurations. I am not recommending overclocking if you do not know what you are doing. High voltages may damage hardware, and it will not be covered by warranty.
AMD Ryzen processors are really limited regarding overclocking, so also our Ryzen 9 3900X isn’t overclocking well. We can still achieve above-average results with 4.35GHz on all 12 cores what is about the same result as we could see on higher X570 motherboards. Pretty good, I would say, as the B550 motherboards are significantly cheaper.
The maximum memory frequency which we could reach was DDR4-4800 using Micron E-die memory. Because of memory scaling on modern AMD platforms, most users will instead look at the tightest timings at DDR4-3600, so below is a screenshot with DDR4-3600 CL14-15-15-34 1.40V. These settings work well using any good Samsung B-die memory kits. In our test was HyperX Predator 2x8GB DDR4-4266, which will be reviewed soon on our website. We can also use cheaper series like G.Skill Ripjaws FlareX DDR4-3200 CL14, which should be able to reach DDR4-3600 CL14 at about 1.45V.
No matter if we are overclocking or not, we can count on some exceptional results with the B550 Steel Legend.
